The Peoria Asthma Coalition is dedicated to controlling and preventing and onset of asthma in Peoria County residents through education, screening, advocacy, and service.
2010-2011 Plan of Action
- Develop effective strategies to sustain the structure and function of the Peoria Asthma Coalition.
- To promote community asthma awareness in Peoria County through education and outreach by conducting a World Asthma Day event.
- To collaborate with the Peoria Tobacco Coalition and develop effective strategies to reduce second-hand tobacco smoke and asthma.
The Peoria Asthma Coalition meets the second Wednesday of the month at 3:00 PM in the Health Education Room at the Peoria City/County Health Department, 2116 N. Sheridan Road, Peoria, Illinois.

The Winning With Asthma
A 30-minute Coach's Asthma Clipboard educational program was developed through a collaborative effort between the Minnesota Department of Health Asthma Program (MDH) and the Utah Department of Health Asthma Program (UDOH). The program encourages those involved in youth sports, especially coaches, to understand how to help athletes properly manage their asthma during athletic events. It also teaches proper medication management, ways to prevent exercise-induced asthma, steps to take when athletes are experiencing asthma attacks, information on asthma triggers - including what they are and what can be done to avoid them - and guidelines specific for cold-weather sports.
Those who complete the program receive a booklet with additional asthma information and a coach's clipboard with "What to do during an Asthma Attack" printed on the back. Pre- and post-test surveys are also included to evaluate the program's effectiveness.
