Illinois Asthma Partnership Coalitions

To reduce the impact of asthma across the State, the Illinois Asthma Program funds local asthma coalitions across the state of Illinois to implement interventions that address the Illinois Asthma State Plan goals and objectives.

Currently, 11 asthma coalitions are members of the Illinois Asthma Partnership. The coalitions work collaboratively to meet the Illinois State Plan goals and objectives. The coalitions are representative of the diverse citizenship of the State of Illinois. They are large and small and work independently to address the specific needs of the communities that they serve. Members of the individual coalitions include doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, public health professionals, health educators, and individuals with asthma. They are based in local health departments, university-based hospitals, community health centers, universities, and community-based organizations.

Annually, the Coalitions identify common issues to address statewide. Collaboratively, shared interventions are then developed to address the specific issues. Recognizing the unique natural of each community, the coalitions are given the latitude to implement the interventions in the manner that is most appropriate. These interventions are integrated into communities to bring about a system level change.
