About the Illinois Asthma Partnership
The Illinois Asthma Partnership (IAP) was formed in 2000 by the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) Asthma Program in response to the elevated mortality rates from asthma in Illinois. Since its inception, the original task force of 50 members has grown to over 140 members working together toward a common goal - reducing asthma morbidity and mortality - to reduce the costs associated with the disease and improve the quality of life for people with asthma and their caretakers. The goals, strategies, and priority areas of the IDPH's Asthma Program and the IAP can be found in the 3rd Edition of the IDPH's 2009-2014 Illinois Asthma State Plan, Addressing Asthma in Illinois.
Task force members represent diverse asthma stakeholders across the state of Illinois. They represent major urban areas and small rural communities. They include doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, public health professionals, health educators, and individuals with asthma. They are based in local health departments, university-based hospitals, community health centers, universities, and community-based organizations.
